of words, they are still eloquent. to present the 2012 national book award for fiction is lori moore. lori moore is the author of three story collections and three novels, the most recent being "a gate at the stairs," a finalist for the orange prize. her fiction and nonfiction have appeared in the new yorker, "the new york times," the paris review, the yale review and elsewhere. she has been the recipient of the irish times' prize for international fiction, the rea award for the short story, the o'henry award and a landen fellowship. she was a member of the american academy of arts and letters, and it gives me great pleasure to introduce lori moore.
